Have You Read Julie Lessman’s Books?

The O’Connor family might be fictional characters but once you’ve read the first in Julie’s series, The Daughters of Boston “A PASSION MOST PURE”, you will feel you’ve been at the windows looking in and hearing each unique voice.

This series of stories set in the early 1900’s has touched my heart and life unlike any  other Historical Romance series ever has. Her second series, Winds of Change carries on where the first series leaves off with “A HOPE UNDAUNTED”.

This last week I found myself literally flat on my back due to muscle spasms – painful ones – throughout my entire torso. (Corsets being tightened too tight couldn’t have been worse than these) I was able to be up about ten to fifteen minutes out of every three hours or so from late Sunday afternoon through Thursday afternoon when my physical therapist showed up at my door.

I’d purchased Julie Lessman’s five books about the O’Connor family at one of her book signings about two weeks ago so I got the bag, put it beside my mat on the floor and began reading the first book. I COULD NOT put it down. I have never been grateful for pain before (except when the doctors feared I’d be paralyzed for life – another story for another time) but being forced to lie still gave me ample opportunity to read each of the five books in print so far. I believe Steven’s story is about to be told this year – can’t wait.

The Spiritual message is not preachy but so true to the lives of each one – the depth of the characters’ personalities and temperaments and the back stories that made them the people they’d become – the sense of humor – those traits differing in each character, giving them a uniqueness unrivaled in any book I’ve read thus far – the quality of writing that makes one feel they’re living along side this family, invited to the picnics and the family dinners, hurting when one of them is hurting and the passion as told by Julie isn’t anything to cringe over, or feel ashamed for reading. It’s a very real but well-told part of the lives of these amazing characters, from the parents through the son’s and daughter’s biographical portraits, without being graphic or unseemly – each aspect of Julie’s story-telling is amazingly life-like and gave me such a sense of these people I cried when they cried (I NEVER cry over a book) I laughed aloud and had my hubby giving me quizzical looks, especially when I was laughing on the tail of tears streaming down my face.

Unless you’ve read Julie’s masterpieces, you’ve yet to read a GREAT Christian Fiction Historical Romance series that doesn’t seem like fiction.

I can honestly say, these books should become classic Christian literature or someone needs their head examined!

Julie, my heart and soul have been blessed by reading your books. I’ve grown Spiritually through the messages woven throughout the books, I’ve grown emotionally and even as a writer by reading your thought-provoking, wonderful, happy-ever-afters. How these amazing people got to those endings just amazes me yet.

These characters Julie has fashioned will live with you long after you read the books.

May God richly bless you, Julie and may your stories be examples used to teach new writers!

Be sure to read:
A Passion Most Pure –    (Faith’s story)
A Passion Redeemed –   (Charity’s story)
A Passion Denied      –    (Elizabeth’s story)

         A Hope Undaunted – (Katie’s story)

              A Heart   Revealed  – (Sean’s story)

Coming 10/01/12
            A  Love  Surrendered  – (Steven’s story)

In the Works           –       (Patrick and Marcy’s story – the Prequel)

You won’t be the same once you’ve read these books – I promise.

  4. Okay—I wasn't ill when I began reading Julie's books, but I was DEFINITELY OVERJOYED when I finished them! You're so right, Joy–Julie's characters DO come alive and live and breathe right off the page! Reading her books is like becoming part of a large and wonderfully warm family, with all its ups and downs and drama–only by being a \”silent\” part of that family, we get to live in the heads of each strong character, right along with Julie. Thank you, Julie, for Wonderfully Passionate books, and thank you, Joy, for telling the world!God's blessings!

  10. I don't think I was sick when I read and reviewed Julie's book A PASSION MOST PURE for Romancejunkies a couple years ago, but who knows?? If I was, then it probably laid a healing balm on my body from reading it. I went back and found the review I did if anyone is interested in reading a second review about Julie's first book. I'll post link at end of my comment. Congrats, Julie, for your success and when I get time to dig out from under my review pile, I'll have to check out your other books in the series. God bless! 25. Julie, your books are amazing!!! I don't think I can say anything more about your books that hasn't already been said, but I've been reading them since A Passion Most Pure (my personal favorite) came out and I'm completely hooked! You write in a way that really makes the story come alive and the characters really inspire me in my faith journey so that I feel like I learn with the characters as they face different situations in their lives. And the romance certainly doesn't hurt! ;)Thank you for writing such beautiful and positive stories!~ Victoria

  30. VICTORIA … thank you SO very much for your kind words, my friend. I am a bit of a drama queen, which certainly helps in making the stories come alive for me, so I'm glad they do for you too. Part of the reason the faith lessons resonate, I think, is because I've got almost forty years of spiritual lessons I've learned the hard way that I infuse into every book I write, so between the CDQ aspect of my personality and obviously being a slow learner, my stories are WAY more than just fiction, I guess. :)LIZ, believe it or not, I'm on pins and needles too, because I hope you like ALS as much as I do. I went through 30 Kleenex editing this baby, and until it, my all-time high was 12!! 😉 So hopefully you will laugh a little and cry a lot in this final episode of the O'Connors. 😐 Thanks for stopping by and good luck in the contest!Hugs,Julie

  33. I'm sorry you had to be in so much pain from your back, but Julie's books are wonderful distractions. I've read all her books (though I don't own them all, unfortunately) and am looking forward to A Love Surrendered and the prequel telling Patrick and Marcy's story. I'm happy that Julie decided to do the prequel as well. One of the things I love about Julie's books is that the characters are not only passionate for each other but passionate for Christ. They are not perfect people but allow Christ to redeem them and strive to live for Him. They are books of hope for the rest of us.pmk56[at]sbcglobal[dot]net

  34. Pam – I don't think it was a coincidence that I was laid out on my back for those three or four days. I'd not had muscle spasms since 1995 right after a big back surgery. I was so glad AFTER reading all five books in a row – it was worth the pain.Thank you for reiterating the Spiritual message part of Julie's books – you are so right – her characters are like real people – IMPERFECT – after all if we were perfect we'd not be here to have to grow any longer. 😉 Thanks, so much for stopping by and commenting on Julie's wonderful work!
